San Martín Sacatepequez

Huipil from the San Martín Sacatepequez region of Guatemala, also know as San Martín Chile Verde. This huipil measures 33 1/2″ across the shoulders, 26 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5″ in diameter with an additional 2″ slit on the side.

This huipil is brightly colored with elaborate embroidery that features various multi-colored diamonds and triangles throughout the body in yellow, green, and purple. It is decorated with detailed flowers at the neckline, and a mayan girl embroidered in the center of each side. The neckline is trimmed in soft black velvet with black velvet ties. The randas that hold the panels together are done with a row of lovely white flowers. The sleeves are trimmed in burgundy velvet. The background fabric is deep red cotton.

This huipil is used, but it is in excellent condition, with no signs of wear.
