Santa Maria de JesúsSanta Maria de Jesús

Very darling child’s embroidered huipil, full of lifelike quetzales! It is from the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. This lovely huipil measures 21″ across the shoulders, and 21″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5″ in diameter. The sides have had the stitching removed to open the arm holes, but can easily be restitched if desired.

This huipil is absolutely beautiful with brilliant colored embroidery that features two quetzales (national bird of Guatemala) on each side of the huipil in a flower garden full of wonderful flowers and playful bunnies. The colors are glowing jewel colors of greens, pinks, blues, purples, oranges, yellows and more! The neckline is accented with black crochet. The background is a black commercial cotton blend fabric. The embroidery is machine done free-hand, and is truly an art form. Just amazing! This is a wonderful example of the incredibly beautiful ‘fiesta’ huipiles of Santa Maria de Jesús.

This huipil is in good used condition with some loose threads throughout the bodice as well as small hole on one side in the background fabric perhaps caused when the sleeve stitching was removed. This can be easily repaired and is not readily visible.
