Santa Maria de Jesús

Santa Maria de Jesús

Woven corte, or mayan skirt, indigo navy with white stripes and rows of flowers! It is from the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. The corte is a wrap-around skirt that consists of a cut of cloth usually joined to form a tube into which the woman steps. Excess material is wrapped around the body and folded at the waist in pleats, and tied with a faja (belt).

This elegant corte measures 41″ wide and 53″ long (laid flat). Cortes are generally sewn together to make a tube, but this one is not. It is a full flat piece of fabric.

This corte is beautiful with its accented design that is common for the Santa Maria de Jesús region. It has a seam, or randa, of flowers in yellow and green that runs the length of the corte and one that runs the width.

This corte is in good used condition, and very soft, with a few signs of wear and gentle fading of the dark blue fabric.
