Quetzaltenango

Large colorful huipil with beautiful weaving and striking embroidery!! It is from the Quetzaltenango region of Guatemala (Frequently referred to as Xela). This stunning huipil measures 37 1/2″ across the shoulders, and 29 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5 1/2″ in diameter. The sides are unstitched, but can easily be restitched if desired. The shoulders had previously been gathered and stitched, but the stitching has been removed to extend the huipil to its full size.

This brilliantly colored huipil is accented with embroidery that features flowers around the neck and down the front and back on a woven background. The detailed embroidery on the collar is roses of yellow, pink, orange and red with matching patterns on front and back. One side of the collar features a darling duck wearing a bow and hat. The other side of the collar shows a small man wearing his traje tending to the flowers. The woven background is full of brilliant colors of yellow/gold, blue, purple with turquoise. Where the three panels join, it is accented with a colorful ‘randa’ of beautiful roses running down the front on both sides. The sleeves are trimmed with an turquoise blue velvet accent trim. The photos do not show how lovely and colorful this huipil is.

This huipil is in very good used condition, with almost no sign of wear. Very enjoyable and very wearable!
